Ladprao 80
Bangkok, Thailand.
TRR 80 is a two-faced building serving two purposes of living and working for the one
family. One side faces street for living, another at the back faces their own factory for
working. The house is designed as a new home for the second generation to be
living with their children and a new place for the parents to stay closer to their
furniture factory. The project is located in Ladprao district, one of the busiest areas in
Bangkok, Thailand.
To be living in this busy district, the parking and the front of the house are important.
To be responsible for its neighbourhood, an internal L-shaped parking is designed for
facilitating owners to be able to turn the car inside their own land instead of a straight
parking as the others. This solution also creates more faces for the building than a
square type, bringing in more natural light into this enclosed area. Rough stones are
used to create an anti-slip surface as well as a large rock garden when the space is
empty. Inside, the building is divided horizontally and vertically. Double volume space
is in the middle to connect every parts of the house as a common area, living, dining
and kitchen. The floated staircase and tempered glass railing demonstrate family
business as a crafted furniture, alongside a custom-made solid wood countertop of
dining table.
As the family of two generations, the contrast between them is a main drive to
generate architecture and interior design. Although the exterior is simple, box-shaped
building cladded by only two materials of grey tile and artificial wood, the interior is
more mixture of materials and colours. It is developed diversely through different
interests between the owners as each occupied area is finished in order to
representing each personality. Shared living and dining area is more neutral, mostly
earth tone used with some drop of colours. Master bedroom of the young family is
more fashionable, more black and white, whereas the parents’ room are vintage,
both rooms are well decorated from antique Chinese furnitures, recycled marbles and
old mahogany woods.
